I mentioned before how much I love 'The Devil Wears Prada' by Lauren Weisberger. I know it's one of those Bridget Jones kind of books but I really enjoyed reading it. In fact, I first knew about its existence while I was in my honeymoon in Australia. little story of where/how I found out about the book )

When I knew that the book was going to be made into a movie I got all excited about it. I was glad that Meryl Streep was going to play Miranda Priesley and Anne Hathaway was playing Andrea. In my head, both of them were good options I could adapt to my mental images of both characters.

I had to watch the movie as soon as I could and I finished watching it yesterday, although the quality of the copy wasn't very good.

Anyway, now that I've seen it I have mixed thoughts about it. I really think I stick with the book better than with the movie. It's one of those situations where the movie didn't really disappoint me but I think the book is way better: more witty, more funny, more... don't know, complete?

This doesn't mean the adaptation is bad. I mean, I don't think there could have been any other way to make the book into a movie, and in general the adaptation is good, believe me, it's just that isn't enough for me.

As I say, the cast is good. I have to say that my favorite character is Nigel, the one played by Stanley Tucci, who is a god! in acting. He is fabulous!!! I also enjoy Emily Blunt as Emily, Miranda's first secretary. She is exactly as I imagined her! She is very good! And of course, Simon Baker, that only with appearing twice or three times in the movie... makes you sign deeply wishing you were Anne Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway, btw, is beautiful during the whole movie! I don't think there is moment where she looks bad, even at the beginning! However, the actors playing her friends and boyfriend, I didn't like any of them! I mean it! Any!

The story is well narrated, the movie isn't too long and it's well paced, but it's just that the most funny moments or the situations where you really see what Andrea is going through in the book and how she acts later isn't very well portrayed in the movie. I know it's normal... because as in the Harry Potter movies, you just can't put all there! but I missed things! even when they tried to make their best to include some of them played one after another with cute music in the background...

Anyway, just the last bit: the soundtrack is pretty good, including Madonna's Vogue and a Seal's Crazy version by Alanis Morissette that I really love!

Things going on lately...

* Last Friday I watched my first two episodes of Queer as Folk, US version, and I think I'm hooked... Gale Harold is so hot as Brian Kinney... *sigh* I found, among others this great site, Gale Online, with lots of info and pics!!

* These last days (since Sunday, actually) I haven't been around LJ as much as I usually am because I've been abducted by a book I'm reading... First of all I have to say that I haven't been reading a lot this year (apart from books about Japanese and Chinese, and fics :S) but during summer I usually read more... I'm reading some books at the same time but the one I got on Sunday, is just an easy read that asks to be finished as soon as possible... It's a romantic novel by Sue-Ellen Welfonder... Bride of the Beast, that actually is a second part of a series (yes, I'm weird that way, I don't mind) of stories about a Scottish clan... Anyway, apart from the cliches typical in the romantic novels, I'm enjoying it quite a bit... I can be so silly... *hi hi* more about the book and romantic novels in general )

*Last Monday, Fuji TV aired Takuya Kimura's Hero SP!! I can't wait to watch it... but I haven't so far so I don't know how it was, but I'm sure it was great since Hero was such a great dorama.

*Summer sales started here and I got totally crazy and bought some clothes and shoes (I'm really am considering to make a post about shoes-shopping addiction ;)) My favorite adquisitions )

*Today, yesterday, I read this great adult fic, Yellow Plastic by [livejournal.com profile] minisinoo featuring Cedric and Hermione as adults. She writes them so nicely, so real... that I enjoyed it a lot!

*Okay, a bit of World Cup thoughts... Today Italy made it to the final. I told mr. ginger a week ago or more than it would be cool to have an European final and we'll get one. I haven't watched the match, Germany-Italy, just bits... but a friend told me that Italy played better than Germany. Originally I wanted a Germany-Portugal in the final... but let's see if I get an Italy-Portugal instead... It would be cool anyway ;)

*Talking about Portugal. Last week I was watching tv late at night when I caught this program about Spanish culture issues, called (translated) Culture with Ñ. I was nicely surprised to see that the guest in that program was Joaquim de Almeida, my favorite Portuguese actor! But what really astonished me was the fact that he admitted he talked 6 languages and acted and worked with 5 of them... So guessing and checking movies, I think he meant he has filmed or worked in movies using English, French, Italian, Spanish, and, of course, Portuguese, since he admitted that the one he didn't master was German, although he studied in a German school as a child. Simply amazing! Now I'm admire him more than before!

in case you wonder, he looked like this in the interview )

*And... sadly, the last thing: this news about North Korea, worries me :/
