The devil wears Prada (book and movie)
I mentioned before how much I love 'The Devil Wears Prada' by Lauren Weisberger. I know it's one of those Bridget Jones kind of books but I really enjoyed reading it. In fact, I first knew about its existence while I was in my honeymoon in Australia.

Our little treat during the honeymoon was a three or four days stay at Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef. It was the perfect place: romantic, idillic, a good place for mr. ginger to practice scuba diving, with the option of watching fishes and corals like in any other part of the world. The place was great but for my taste, the lizards that gave name to the island were doing a poor job keeping the insects population at bay... otherwise, the place was just incredible (I won't mention the awful hour in a tiny place that I thought was going to fall from the sky any minute -this is my fear of flying talking-).

We had one of the Anchor Bay Rooms (the rest were a bit out of price, I think) that were really nice and comfortable. Those rooms had opening at the front and at the back, this last one lead straight to the beach. I haven't seen water so transparent in the shore, so blue a bit farther, the sand so white... Really unbelievable (and everybody can tell you I'm not a beach/sun person).

The main lobby of the Lizard Island Resort had a small library where every guest was welcome to take any book they may find interesting to read during their stay. The one I picked was 'The Devil Wears Prada'.

I couldn't just stay at the room all the time, even if the book was interesting and I laughed so much at some points and wanted to know what else was happening to poor Andrea...

The thing is that by the time I had to leave the hotel I was close to the end but I hadn't finished it, so in our next stop at a big airport, I bought the book and brought it back to Spain.

However time later, I commited the mistake to lend it to a fellow coworker that never returned it to me (I hate when that happens!! besides the book was Australian *pout*) so I had to buy a copy exactly the same than the previous one, but here. *sigh*

When I knew that the book was going to be made into a movie I got all excited about it. I was glad that Meryl Streep was going to play Miranda Priesley and Anne Hathaway was playing Andrea. In my head, both of them were good options I could adapt to my mental images of both characters.

I had to watch the movie as soon as I could and I finished watching it yesterday, although the quality of the copy wasn't very good.

Anyway, now that I've seen it I have mixed thoughts about it. I really think I stick with the book better than with the movie. It's one of those situations where the movie didn't really disappoint me but I think the book is way better: more witty, more funny, more... don't know, complete?

This doesn't mean the adaptation is bad. I mean, I don't think there could have been any other way to make the book into a movie, and in general the adaptation is good, believe me, it's just that isn't enough for me.

As I say, the cast is good. I have to say that my favorite character is Nigel, the one played by Stanley Tucci, who is a god! in acting. He is fabulous!!! I also enjoy Emily Blunt as Emily, Miranda's first secretary. She is exactly as I imagined her! She is very good! And of course, Simon Baker, that only with appearing twice or three times in the movie... makes you sign deeply wishing you were Anne Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway, btw, is beautiful during the whole movie! I don't think there is moment where she looks bad, even at the beginning! However, the actors playing her friends and boyfriend, I didn't like any of them! I mean it! Any!

The story is well narrated, the movie isn't too long and it's well paced, but it's just that the most funny moments or the situations where you really see what Andrea is going through in the book and how she acts later isn't very well portrayed in the movie. I know it's normal... because as in the Harry Potter movies, you just can't put all there! but I missed things! even when they tried to make their best to include some of them played one after another with cute music in the background...

Anyway, just the last bit: the soundtrack is pretty good, including Madonna's Vogue and a Seal's Crazy version by Alanis Morissette that I really love!

Yeah! The icon is from a group of icons from Dirty Dancing I made not long ago... That one is one of my favorites! She tries to look so divine... failing lol!

Yes, they did justice to the movie, but as I say, it felt like it wasn't enough for me. I definitely prefer the book better ;) although everybody was correct in the movie and all.
