Bluray software advice/help?  
After a lot of fighting with the BD I really think I was very happy in the land of DVDs...

I got a BD/DVD player for my laptop (external one) it's a samsung player and I have been playing DVDs with it with no problem. I tried to watch my first BD and I've been struggling all morning!

I can't play it using VLC because some library missing and I had to install the Power DVD 10 that came with the Bluray player but when trying to play a BD it says I need to update to version 12 and I can't seem to be able to do that...

I need some advice and help from those of you who already have a bluray player and are way more experienced than I am. I wanted to play blurays with VLC and I hate PowerDVD from when I used it long ago...

Any idea/feedback... :(

You don't need to upgrade to version 12.

Power DVD 10 will do the job pretty well without any upgrading.

Try ejecting and loading your DVD again and when the pop-up window for auto-play pops up, choose Power DVD to play the disc.

You can't play BDs with VLC.

I don't have a BD drive on my computer so I haven't tried myself or if it actually works. You can take a look to see if you want to try it yourself.

Let me know how it goes if you actually try it XD

Im not sure for Samsung, but if your laptop has a blueray player then there should already be a default program in there that plays bluray. Try typing bluray on your computer search box, it should give u the default player for it.. Hope this kinda helps

I also saw this at a forum, it worked with another person having the same problem as you:

You can try downloading the trial to see if it works, it Corel WinDVD Pro 11, plays bluray
