Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (I've come back to Aamir)
A while ago I finished watching Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, another pretty old Aamir Khan movie. This one is from 1991. It's a romantic comedy (more comedy in some points, more romance in some other)...
So far I had a great time watching the movie. I enjoyed it quite a bit. In fact I like it more after finishing it than I thought I would as I started watching it. I confess I had my doubts as I was around twenty minutes into the movie... but as I allowed Aamir and Pooja Bhatt to develop the story and their relationship, I got more and more interested and entertained.
I have to say that the movie still has that eighties/first nineties look that kind of amuses me as it did in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, but well after a while I can live with it and in some way it fits the movie so...
The film tells the story of Pooja a rich heiress who elopes in search of Deepak, a heartthrob who stole her heart to her father's dismay. In the way to reach him she meets Raghu, a journalist who has just quarreled with his boss. He doesn't know who she is at the beginning but he discovers it later and even then, he helps her to reach her love in exchange of giving him the exclusive of the news. Raghu has to bear and deal with all the things of a rich girl: she only complains, she is used to the rest of the world serving her, etc...
As they spend time together, Pooja realizes she is falling in love with Raghu. At the same time Raghu feels the same but he won't be admitting it to nobody, not even himself.
Who would Pooja's father prefer as the right and perfect husband for his only daughter: Deepak or Raghu.
Aamir is great as Raghu. He is the nicest guy, helping Pooja all the time, being fair and just and nice and caring... bearing all the rich girl issues Pooja has. Besides he looks so young and handsome... Another issue is the fact that he tends to wear his pants almost right to his armpits... and that awful hat he is so fond of!!
Pooja at the beginning reminded me (briefly) of Laura San Giacomo in Pretty Woman... Her wardrobe in general is kind of hideous, but in the nineties I'm sure it was kind of cool :S
Pooja's father and a couple of detectives he hires, dressed in black and white are quite hilarious. Pooja's father is the best comic relief in the whole movie!!! So funny to watch!! I also have a soft spot for Raghu's boss at the newspaper... he is nice although tries to show the opposite.
Raghu and Pooja share some great moments worth mentioning: when a guy steals Pooja's purse and Raghu goes after him meanwhile she doesn't notice and he comes back to tell her that he couldn't reach the guy. It's right then that she realizes what it's happened; Raghu's lessons to Pooja about asking for a lift in the middle of the road; a cute song they share where she sings her love toward Deepak and Raghu does the same toward nobody... maybe her; they are both hungry and tired and Raghu only has a gum that he carefully folds in half to give her half of it; the dance and singing where they are kind of dressed like gypsies, so cute!!!
I laughed in some moments but I also found curious and funny that there were a couple of famous pieces in the soundtrack: one sounding strangely like the Pink Panther theme, and another similar to Ennio Morricone's music to Sergio Leone's movie with Clint Eastwood (don't know which one, probably 'For a Fistfull of Dollars' or 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly').
I really recommend the movie because it's just too nice to watch Aamir playing the nicest guy, the hero, the Romeo in love but who seems he won't get the girl... And after a while the old look of the wardrobe won't matter, really!
Some pics:

Aamir quite serious as he sees Pooja realizes what he meant about somebody taking her purse.

I can't help but posting this. I want a flower costume like those!! *lol*

Rugha observing Pooja as she dreams awake and sings about 'her love'.

Later on, Rugha listens to Pooja admitting her love for him. He looks hurt and is uncertain of her feelings.

Pooja tries to make him understand but he still doesn't know what to do.

When Pooja comes back to her father but she is unhappy. Her father notices and tries to help since he feels is has to do with her heart...
