Prison Break (eps 1 to 15 more or less)
This was one of my series chosen to be seen during summer, with Lost season 2, that I've already watched (see post here), Hustle and some other...

I'm currently watching episode 15 and so far I love it!

First of all, I haven't been reading everything said about the series, just some things here and there because, for a change, I didn't want to spoil myself too much. I've managed, btw ;)

I love it from the very beginning (probably Wentworth Miller's fault. Funny that the first time I saw him in something was in Popular!, I know, no comment). I did know the premise of the series so it was pretty easy to follow. It's impossible not to fall in love with Michael and his crusade to get Lincoln out of prison, besides, I'm kind of weak when we're talking about hot looking guys with and IQ above the average... Anyway... I'm sure there are photos of him with another hair style but I guess he knows he looks the hotest with the hair cut so so short, personally I think it fits him just fine!!

Another part of my love goes to Sucre... I love the guy, although at the beginning you don't know very well where he steps... later on he shows he is a nice pal for Michael... I love him with his girlfriend in that encounter when he asks her to marry him (hate hate Hector! when he goes to prison to tell him she is with him now and tells Sucre to forget about her)... He looks like he isn't brilliant, but did have a couple of good ideas... Love when he speaks Spanish!

Another of my weakness but because the character is really interesting is Westmoreland! How can I just not love the man... Being the veteran in the whole prison, I image what he has witnessed and lived... He belongs to a time where crimes were made in another fashion... I guess he got surprised more than once seeing what human beings are capable of doing to each other. To me he is one of those 'last outlaws' that took a lot of money from a place because he may need it but also enjoyed the rush of adrenaline and to enjoy to live just crossing the line... he was kind of a rebel (okay, I believed the whole legend thing, I'm weak!). I really enjoy his interaction with Michael, the talks they have, the lessons they teach each other... I knew he was going to join the group in the escape, but I didn't want it to be for such a sad reason :( Btw, what T-Bag did to his cat, was just awful, I felt so bad for him!) And right now in episode 15 he had this cute moment with C-Note about their daughters...

Okay, I also like, because I like him very much ages ago when I saw reruns of Mike Hammer (I know, this character was considered like kind of chauvinist but I liked him because he was like the detectives of the fifties... and the guy who dubbed him here was just amazing, lol!) Anyway, Stacy Keach is really great at Warden Pope, I love that he keeps his present for his wife as a secret... What kind of guy built that just because he knows she loves it!!! Kind of cute, if you think about it). Besides I'm a bit tired of bad-bad wardens, so it's a good change (he passed the label of 'bad guy' to Capt. Bellick (who is kind of disgusting).

As I have only seen 15 eps, don't know what happens so far, but for now, I really like Nick Savrinn. It can be because previously I saw the actor (Frank Grillo) to be the most annoying and repulsive guy in Blind Justice, so this was kind of a nice change. Btw, I was kind of annoyed with the continuity guys... I imagine it was the episode after the break... but he was in hospital one day and the next (or so) he is carrying his 'lawyer case' with his injured arm!!! Please! The only sign he hurts it's he kind of flinched a bit rubbing it when they arrived to their office or similar.

Have to admit this: apart from Wentworth Miller, the other reason I wanted to watch the series was Peter Stormare. I love the man!!! John Abruzzi isn't a guy to like easily but he has his moments, okay?? Having in mind that mostly I can't stand T-Bag, it was good when John faces him... too bad he good the bad end... *snif* Peter is so good at this kind of creepy guys... I was in disbelief when he cut Michael's toes!!!

In general, I also like C-Note, although as all there, he is not angel... however he isn't a bad bad guy and repulsive as T-Bag.

I have to admit that the actor playing T-Bag does a hell of a job! He is really great because he really manages for you to hate the character and wish he was out of the plan instead of anybody else... but well that is his only merit ;)

However my absolute hate goes to Agent Paul Kellerman. It's hard to say how much I hate him!! As Donna (from the West Wing) would say, 'to put it quite simple, I hate your breathing guts!' He is the most disgusting fellow in the series... more than any of the inmates, seriously. I get so angry after everything he does that I just can't stand it and I can't find words to explain it. I take out of 'the hate' Agent Danny Hale, since he regretted what he did and try to make the right thing.

The scene where they kill LJ's mom and her boyfriend was one of the most awful at the same time than powerful of what I've seen so far... poor boy I was almost crying because it was all so awful and when they arranged everything to frame him. Watching how they were putting his fingerprints in the gun and all... 'I was no, no, no!!!'

I know I've talked about Veronica or Lincoln... Okay, they're fine and I like them but Robin Tunney isn't a favorite of mine, although she is fine... and Dominic Purcell is also fine as Lincoln... He does an incredible job with his anguish and lost of hope... I really like his relation with Michael (his face when he sees Michael in prison for the first time was amazing) but don't know there aren't too much to work with since Michael is the main character in my opinion and it's totally defined as character meanwhile Lincoln isn't.

What else... Sarah, the doctor. I really like her and I think she is great in chemistry and interaction with Michael. It's a good character and I enjoy watching her talking with him and seeing how she is kind of falling for him in her weird way... they are kind of cute ;)

Simply amazing for how impressive her change is, Patricia Wettig as the Vicepresident. I really want to hit her hard!!! She is a very good evil woman!!! She goes right there to share 'the evilness throne' with Angela Channing and Alexis Carrington! lol!! (okay they're old examples but they were the very first evil ladies I saw on tv). I really want her to be discovered. I really want her biting the dust and facing a sentence, really!!!

And my own funny fangirl note: Anthony Starke, Ezra Standish in one of my beloved fandoms, The Magnificent Seven, played Sebastian, Veronica's fiancee... He is so good being a jerk that it was pretty funny to see him. From the very first moment I wondered when he was going to be out of the picture, well, it was pretty sure and pretty awful... quite memorable (being ironic here).

Now I wonder too many things to probably put it here... the obvious one is if they'll get out (I doubt it but well, it would be cool)... but putting this aside I wonder: will get any of the guys in the breaking team get out like T-Bag, Westmoreland (not!!) or C-Note...; what will happen with LJ, and more important Nick, because he isn't one of the main character, is he?; Sarah and Michael will go further ;), that will be cool... Capt. Bellick will discover more suspicious things about Michael... hmmm... too many questions... Have to watch the rest soon!

So far I'm enjoying it very much but after Lost I really should have found a less intriging and tense series... because if I was left at the end of my seat with Lost season finale, this isn't getting better lol!

You see, I needed to create my very first Prison Break icon to use in this post ;)

Btw, belated Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dreamydaze. I'm sorry I didn't say it yesterday but after one of my exams I came home very late. Hope you had a great day, lady!!!!

Sorry, I know this is something I can get a bit anal about: Sara, Sara, SARA. Sarah = actress, Sara = character.

Sigh, personally, Michael and Sara make me want to claw my eyes out, slowly, every time they are on screen together. Which is a pity, since I really like the actress and I do like the character on theory, but their scenes together are just so corny and unlikable to me. They even beat out the whole conspiracy plot as least likable storyline to me. BUT this is certainly an unpopular opinion in the fandom, so if you love them you will be in big, popular company.

But I do love me some Sucre AND some Westmoreland. And I think Patricia Wetting is just awesome in her role, especially considering that they haven't really given her much meaty stuff.

I loved the scene where the other agent, Quinn, broke Kellerman's finger. That was hilarious. And Kellerman and the evil Vice President? Are so getting it on! Or at least used to get it on or something ;D

The scene where the stepfather hits LJ and the scenes where LJ's mother and stepfather get killed were some of the saddest moments in the whole series. Very effective though. LJ really has the worst life even if he annoys me at times.

Okay, I didn't realize they have the same name (character/actress) what I mean is that they look okay, Sara and Michael... I mean, I don't mind them if they go further but I won't burst in tears if they don't. I understand her place there as Michael's interest and it doesn't annoy me, that's all. They aren't my super shipper to adore, btw ;) I may like to read fics with them but I don't mind reading others... it may be interesting to read some Veronica/Michael, but I would also enjoy a Nick/Veronica... and that Veronica isn't my favorite... or a Sara/Lincoln... Haven't read any fic so far, so, I just don't know ;)

Glad we agree about Sucre and Westmoreland!

Oh the breaking finger scene was the best thing ever!!!! I laughed so much!!!

Well I'll see what's coming... still have episodes to watch ;)

Interestingly there seems to be more Lincoln/Sara than Michael/Veronica which is odd considering that Michael is wicked hot, the main character and there is actually, you know, canon basis for it. But I'm guessing it is due to Sara having a bigger fanbase than Veronica. So Sarafans are more likely to shop her around with different characters. I remember two or three Michael/Veronica fics and a bunch more for Lincoln/Sara. But I recommend watching episode 16 before we talk any further.

Sniff, there is way, way, way too little Nick/Veronica. Which is a pity because Nick rocks. He needs some loving dammit! Sucre is also somebody who doesn't nearly enough fic attention for my taste, compared to how hot and adorable he is. Always found it odd that not even the slash bug has been biting with him too much. I mean sure, there is *some* Michael/Sucre, but not nearly as much as there could be considering that they are friends, live together in a room, are roughly the same age and of a similar hotness level. Odd.

Hee, I'm glad you like Prison Break! I really enjoyed it this season - but it's also one of the hardest shows for me to watch because it's incredibly stress-inducing. I'm always on the edge of my seat, even when I know the plot can be contrived and manipulative. Somehow, they always sucker me in, and I end up with elevated blood pressure and I get seriously freaked out! :D

I guess that's part of the reason why I still watch it - I love shows that make me FEEL something.
ginger001: prison break[personal profile] ginger001 on June 9th, 2006 02:12 pm (UTC)
LOL! It's really stressful yes! and the previous one I watched, Lost wasn't better about that... but the stress is different because here there are some injustice and unfairness in all that happens to the main characters that you not only get stressed but also furious at those people (the vicepresident, the secret service, the other inmates...)

I have to watch the rest of episodes but so far I really like it. It's very well done and I like most of the characters... and Wentworth is hot, what can I say ;)

I think 50% of the tension is the music. I swear in some episodes (like 15, the one where Michael dresses up as a guard), I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat and constantly go "OMG, OMG, OMG!" and afterwards I'll be like "WTF? Nothing really happened." :D

It's like almost any episode is equally exciting while you watch it and afterwards you have a bit of a chill down period and only then you can truly think about whether it was a good or a bad episode. Because during and right after you are on such an adrenaline high it's really hard to judge anything sanely.

Yay I'm glad you watch PB! I love that show. Wentworth Miller is some serious hotness, although I maintain that he was hotter in the beginning of the show than in the last few episodes, sadly. And yes, Peter Stormare is pretty much life. The hilarious thing with T-Bag is like, in the second episode when he's introduced I was like "omg that guy looks exactly like a rapist" which he so does. I think he's at his worst in the beginning of the series, but towards the middle he won me over because, well, the racist jokes are hilarious and his acting and his lines are fantastic. I love Robert Knepper, and I actually think he makes T-Bag more likeable rather than less likeable! I mean, the character's pretty detestable all on his own... But I LOVE Sucre, he's so cute. I really like all the characters, which doesn't usually happen at all. The cast is also just amazing, if you've ever seen any like candid pictures of them together it is so WTF and great.

But yes. I'm glad you're watching this show, apparently it's become my favorite series like... ever? I have no idea. It's so exciting to watch, I distinctly recall pretty much having a nervous breakdown when I watched the first five episodes over like a day and a half because it was so intense.

It gets pretty addictive!!! I watched like eight episodes one day and the other seven the next one... yesterday I had an exam so I didn't watch any... but will get back today and tomorrow... have to watch the rest.

The series is great not only for the story but because the cast is great!! And Wentworth is especially hot!! ;)

You're right about T-Bag. The guy is disgusting for what he is, but it's played magnificently by the actor and he makes the character a whole interesting one, even as evil as he is.

Sucre, C-Note, Westmorelang... I just love the guys!!!! I'm glad I started watching it now, but I kind of new I was going to like the series anyway!!! ;)
[identity profile] uponplains.livejournal.com on June 9th, 2006 07:13 pm (UTC)
It is INSANELY addictive. It's ridiculous! I had to leave for Africa just when I was really getting into it, which sucked even though y'know yay Africa, but I went on like a spree once I got home. I have never been so grateful to an episode community in my life.

The story, the cast, the writing itself, it's all just really really good. I can sometimes get tired of Wentworth's face just from all the extreme close-ups and how much he's in the episodes, but you know. That's why it's good to have the other characters in there. The Veronica and Lincoln storyline can be dull compared to the prison parts but it's always funny because you forget like "oh right, that's how people act in the real world. Right."

Seriously, at school they have been warning us about people like T-Bag since 6th grade, and I have no idea what it is RK does but all I can say is he's pretty much one of my favorite characters even though I totally hate him sometimes. He's so vile but he's weirdly interesting. And the same with Abruzzi... I was SO terrified of Abruzzi in the beginning but after a few episodes he's like buddy buddy with Michael so it's like he's no big deal. And it's kind of weird.

I just love everybody's individual storylines and how different everyone is. Like they all have good points but they've all got bad points too. The sixteenth episode is pretty freaking good, they go into all the characters' pasts and separate storylines. It's great. I sort of knew I'd like it too, I downloaded the pilot and the second episode and I was like "yeah okay I don't think I can stop watching this omg."
ginger001: prison break[personal profile] ginger001 on June 9th, 2006 07:56 pm (UTC)
I so agree with you! I mean, the fact that there are so many characters, all involved together in some way and that there is a change of scenery (inside prison, outside prison) makes the series richer... because it will be a bit too much if the storyline focuse in the prison all the time... and I think that the way we don't get tired of Michael the genius, always with solution for everything, is that he needs the rest of people and sometimes is Sucre who comes with an idea and you see... you see, all of them have brains...

I had the same feeling about Abruzzi... I was like 'hey Peter you really scares me right now' but after the toes thing... I started liking him little by little... His Abruzzi, Michael's buddy is pretty great to watch... although them they plot that visit of the guy who wants to know where the other guy is to kill him at first I really thought it was real and they weren't nice buddies anymore!! when I saw them laughing later I was so relieved!!!

T-Bag is an interesting character I won't deny that! And as I mentioned the actor does an amazing job!!! I kind of like him for how bad he is but has some points that make him kind of nice in a weird, twisted way... don't know how to explain it.

The one I think I really hate apart from the bad guys is Capt.Bellick, but I guess as Warden Pope is a nice guy, somebody else among the prison personnel had to be the bad one ;)
[identity profile] uponplains.livejournal.com on June 9th, 2006 09:30 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's nice to go back and forth. It might be an overload if it was too much of one or the other. And yeah all of them come up with fantastic ideas, you'll see one of Sucre's more brilliant ones in the seventeenth I think? And T-Bag and C-Note have a good one. I like how even though there are some characters that are smarter than others all of them sort of have a criminal mind, and they're very imaginative lol.

Abruzzi freaked me out so much... the toe thing was horrible! And he was still so awful to Michael for a while, before they became sort of friendly/business partners. I love that scene when Abruzzi's like "you didn't tell Falzone where Fibonacci was and now he's behind bars" and Michael's like "and how do you feel about that?" and he sort of like turns his head in this CRAZY way and he's like "pretty damn good." And it's just like oh phew. He does that so much, it's really offputting.

Bellick is horrible and he is so easy to hate. Even easier than T-Bag who is at least entertaining and pretends to be better than he is... Bellick is just disgusting. I like how they switch who you would assume to be good and who you would assume to be bad. Like you figure the guy on death row would be the bad one but no he's good, or you'd figure the CO would be a decent guy except nope. I do like that they don't totally switch it though, there are still really bad criminals since it's prison after all and there are still good COs.
