A bit of everything
Okay, a quick post about some things related to different fandoms...

* I was pretty happy after the spoilers I read the other day about Spooks series 5. Now I am not so happy :( , probably the opposite, and it isn't even Rupert Penry-Jones related, but in my head it is related to Adam Carter, although in fact is about another character. I sound cryptic, but I don't want to ruin more things about the next series to anybody :S. I read the awful news in [livejournal.com profile] spooky_doings, in this post. I'll just say that I had ideas for fics involving Adam and this character... argg.

* I have several Bollywood movies to watch but my incredible desire to do so fights with my need to study (more than a lot!) since my Chinese exam is next Thursday and the Japanese one is the next Wednesday... Both are quite important, but honestly I have more possibilities to pass the Japanese one... I know I've mentioned them before, but the thing is that although I struggle to be far from LJ I just can't :S

* Just in case somebody else is curious, these are the Aamir Khan's movies I have here waiting to be seen:
- Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (I've seen already half of it and probably will watch the rest in the following days because even with the 80's look it's really cute!)
- Raja Hindustani (that I did star watching once months ago but I felt asleep watching... My fault it was pretty late at night. I remember I liked the premise)
- Lagaan (I'm very curious about it but as I don't know why, I relate it in some way to Mangal Pandey, I prefer to be in the mood to watch this one)

And in the last days I've have also bought:
-Andaz Apna Andaz (the cover of the dvd reminded me of some awful Spanish comedies from the seventies, but it was cheap)
-Ghulam (I read the synopsys and I really want to watch this)
-Dil (the same as above)
-Rangeela (the same as above, but I've read so many great things about this one that now I really want to watch it)

* It seems Michael Jackson is going to be in June 5th SMAPXSMAP. I am not curious about that fact because I find him quite creepy (sorry to those who like him. I like some songs but his looks are just... uncomfortable for me). I want to watch that one because I want to see the guys' reaction since they are so impressionable about some International stars... I got the info from [livejournal.com profile] smapxsmap. Btw, I've made my brand new 'evil takuya' icon from a image I also got from the community but I don't remember from who. sorry. If somebody knows tell me and I'll credit her.

* Those waiting for new Cedric/Hermione manips or some other artwork related to them... Please bear with me, I'll work in them soon... in a couple of weeks I'll be free to play with Photoshop for entire days!

Eeeee. AAA is a funny movie but it's very slapsticky and it's also very inside-jokey. The more Bollywood you know, the more it would appeal because most of the jokes are tied in with general Bollywood stuff.

I adore QSQT. Ghulam is excellent. Dil starts out rocky (and has horrid fashions) but if you get past the first half-hour, it's quite quite fun. Lagaan is excellent. I love Rangeela.

It's good to know that I haven't chosen too bad... I can't wait to watch them all but I'm especially curious about Ghulam and Rangeela.

QSQT is cute for what I've seen and I like how the young lovers handle themselves... although I still have to watch the second half. Aamir looks so young!!

Now I am considering watching Lagaan sooner than before ;)

I really, really like Lagaan. It's so very unlike Mangal Pandey in tone and on the shallow side: no moustaches. But it is very long and so probably not the best thing to be starting if you have to review. :-)

Okay, so that was a wrong assumption I had... Now I have to watch Lagaan to see how different they are... I know Aamir doesn't have moustache in Lagaan... for the dvd cover I can say that he looks really good ;)

I own Lagaan and I'm not someone who will pay for the quality DVD's because they tend to be expensive. It is pretty long, especially the second half and cricket heavy, but very good. And the score is by A.R. Rahman so extra points! :D I don't care too much for Ghulam but the other Aamir ones you have are all excellent. QSQT is very Romeo and Julietesque. One of the first movies I remember seeing as a kid. Aamir and Juhi are both very sweet one of their earlier roles and I like the songs. Raja Hindustani is another sad love story.

AAA is one of my favorites! But it's kinda corny Indian funny and some of the worst outfits ever! All good stuff, but Jackie Shroff wears a Speedo in Rangeela. :P
Aamir is really good in all of these! He's very good at invoking emotion I think. He does that really well in these. Hope you like. :)

Awww, you don't care for Ghulam? But Aamir is all beat up in it and grows as a human being and there is aaaaangst and romance and social issues and it's good. And has a biker gang. What's a movie without a biker gang? :P

I actually don't find Raja Hindustani sad. HEA and all that. Though I do think it's sad that Johnny Lever continues to get roles, so that's maybe what you meant? :P

Yeah, Aamir is good at emotions stuff. I don't get the same psycho-crazy 'protect the woobie at all costs' feel I get when I see SRK suffer, but I really can get into what he is feeling anyway.

I have a strange approach to BW. If I see something when I'm in an anti-actor phase, it will always taint how I see it and the reasoning behind the "hate" is completely inexplicable. I was extremely anti-Rani when I first saw it, but if I see it again now, I'll probably have a different opinion.
Aamir in a biker gang was good, I'll give you that! ;)

I don't know why I like RH as much as I do. Gender conflicted assistants and JL included hee.

SRK's appeal for me is on a completely different level, but Aamir's great too. I respect him a lot as an actor.

My comments still aren't mailing! :(
[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com on June 2nd, 2006 06:10 am (UTC)
Boo on no mailing! That's not good! ;)

I didn't like Rani for the longest time (and now, even much as I love her in movies, I still don't have a general Rani 'like' the way I do with Kajol or Juhi or Preity. I fall for her characters but I never really look forward to Rani roles, if that makes any sense. I mean, I loved her in Hum Tum, Paheli, Black, Bunty aur Babli but it's not as if I am 'yay! Rani will be in such and such a movie' so it's weird. Maybe KKHH where I was livid at her character coming between SRK and Kajol tainted me forever :)

I like RH too, even though it's not the greatest ever. It's like a crazy romantic melodrama and what can be better than that? Aamir makes an adorable bumpkin.

SRK's appeal for me is on a completely different level, but Aamir's great too. I respect him a lot as an actor

That's how I feel too. I somehow get drawn into SRK roles more than I ever do with anyone else in any kind of cinema. It really is a different level. I don't know how he manages it, but he draws me in almost too much. But I adore Aamir and he's made me cry more than once and he is amazing and chameleon-like. I love that Bollywood is such an embarassment of riches. There are so many actors to love and they are all different. Yay!

Okay, now I'm pretty sure I'm going to like Lagaan... In fact I haven't 'not liked' any movies so far... I love all the ones I've seen, which is just great!!!

Now that you mention the score, it's good to know the music is good in Lagaan... I got the soundtrack, plus Fanaa's, Dil Chahta Hai's and Rang de Basanti's the other day in ebay :P so now I know I bought something I won't regret! ;)

I think that in the moment you get used to the weird or outdated outfits you can enjoy most of the movies. I've have already started to watch QSQT and I like it so far... and I bought AAA even with the silly dvd cover... so I really don't mind if the story is good and Aamir is good in them (and he usually is amazing, so I won't have a problem) ;)

*ahem* Hi :) dangermousie pimped you on her lj and so I came over and squeed a little. I love meeting new bollywood lovers.. I hope you don't mind if I add you!

Out of thoes films, I've only seen Lagaan (i have yet to work my way through Aamir's films.. still working on SRK & Amitabh) - but its very well made and a great film. its been a while since i've watched it, but from my memory it definately was worth the oscar nom.

I added you back ;) no problem... I love to meet other bollywood lovers since I'm kind of new here ;)

The thing is that I got into Bollywood films because of Aamir. It's his fault!!! But I don't regret it and I'm having a lot of fun! ;)

Everybody talks great about Lagaan so I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it.

Yes, Vanessa posted it in [livejournal.com profile] smapxsmap. I really don't care to see him because as I've mentioned he makes me uncomfortable, but well, I do want to see the boys acting all 'giddy like schoolgirls' (I love to use that phrase from Leo McGarry in The West Wing ;))
