I wanted to talk about some things I've watched and I'm watching lately but was too busy or lazy to do it before.
I think I mentioned that the final two episodes of series 10 made me more or less happy, although I must confess it wasn't enough. They worked together in a case but things didn't look different from the previous episodes until Nikki is kidnapped that Harry tries desperately to find her.
Well, I forget to mention that at the beginning of the episode finds a letter from an University in Harry's car where it says that he got a job in that Uni. Later on I think he comments it to Leo and Leo asks him if he has told Nikki. Harry admits he hasn't. When Nikki arrives and talks to him about it asking why he didn't tell her and he doesn't consider the issue important and he admits he didn't want her to react the way she is reacting...
Finally, when at the end Harry finds Nikki safe and sound, he hugs her when they are both in his car and she tells him that he should accept the job since it's a great oportunity for him, and he says that he didn't tell her before because he knew she was going to say that.
In that scene they are so cute together that here you have some screen caps:

Nikki is in shock because the guy who kidnapped has been shot in the head and she can't do a thing about it, plus probably she is just tired.

When Harry sits next to Nikki, first thing he does is to hold her hand.

Holding her... so cute!

Harry smiles to himself after she says that he should take the job... it's like he knows her too well *g*
I've just learned that both Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons won their Emmys for the miniseries Elizabeth I!!! That is great news!!!
(btw, H E R E are some icons I made from it ages ago).
It's a total coincidence that I was going to talk about The Virgin Queen, another miniseries that also tells the story of Elizabeth I, starring Anne-Marie Duff, Ian Hard and Tom Hardy, among others. What I liked the most about this production, apart from the great job of the three main actors is the way they deal with Elizabeth and Robert Dudley's relationship.
In the first part where the characters were introduced, the first time I saw Dudley I wasn't totally convinced by the election of Tom Hardy for that character (having in mind that the image I had of him was Jeremy Irons or Joseph Fiennes) but just as the first scene evolved he made me change my mind completely ;)
The way they look so close being so apart at the same time... the distance that keeps growing as he starts knowing she will never marry him, even when he is finally free... all she asks of him, not giving him the chance to say no, because she is the queen and how furious she gets when she learns he's married again... but ends forgiving him once and again...
Although is just a movie version, I like to think that it really gives a vision of the way their posible frienship-romance was. (Think that I haven't study the British Monarchy or anythings... so bear with my ignorance :S)
Now I must confess that I enjoyed Tom Hardy's work as Robert Dudley and I'm looking forward to watching him in more things, in fact I have Colditz, waiting ;)
Pic spam of Elizabeth and Dudley with comments because I can't help it ;)

Elizabeth just after being appointed new Queen escapes the castle and goes to a field nearby to meet Robbie. It seems they are simple lovers meeting again after a time apart.

In the moment they're being flirty with each others, however, Bess, as he calls her, has to remind him that he's married.

But after the verbal slap in the face, she can't keep herself far from him. They're not just childhood friends...

They hug, they're very close... Dudley also reminded her than his marriage he had to do following his father's wishes. He didn't have any other option.

The bitter moment passes and they smile and joke as nothing has happened.

Robbie asks her to ride with him and she accepts. His face it seems to show the turmoil of feelings inside him. This moment is one of my favorites.

More riding because I love them both there. So young, so carefree, so unaware of what is coming in their lives...

Robbie is widowed after the mysterious death of Amy Dudley and even after that Bess doesn't marry him. Instead, later during her reign she'll ask him to be a candidate to marry Mary Queen of Scots, and for that she names him Earl of Leicester. However, Mary rejects him. When Elizabeth names him Earl, she knows she can lose him forever... The way she touches him behind the ear... just lovely. He obeys his Queen wishes.

Elizabeth learns that he's been seeing Lettice, a woman who was a close friend to her, and also that he's married her and she also has a son, that although everybody is made to believe is from her previous husband, Elizabeth doesn't doubt to say that she bets the boy is his. Robbie warns her she's out of line but she can't help being furious.

For the good of the country and politics it seems a marriage between the Duke of Anjou and Elizabeth is the best option. Robbie bears the situation, the flirting between them, and the animosity she still shows toward him. When at the end they realize Anjou isn't the right match and bid him goodbye, Robbie looks up at her, who's saying goodbye in French to the younger man. Love his face there. She closes the window with disdain.

However, he's still there, giving her advice as the rest of men in charge of the politics of the country... even when the rest agree that they have to execute Mary Queen of Scots.

After the execution, England is in war against the Catholic countries. Robbie goes with her to the front to give courage to the men. It seems that the bad moments are forgotten and they joke like they did in the old times.

He's worried she can be in danger being there and warns her to be careful.

Robbie falls asleep. He was already sick. This moment is so sweet, the way she touches his hair.

Robbie reflecting on things... Years have passed but things between them seem to be okay again.

Bess tells him to stop worrying about things and kisses him. How could she know that was the last time she was going to see him...

Elizabeth is devastated when William Cecil tells her the news and gives her Robbie's last letter. Cecil, better than anybody knows how she felt about him... and fears her reaction. He was right in his fears. She was so happy a moment ago because she was victorious... Her life wouldn't be the same again... And Robbie's son Robert Devereux (Earl of Essex) brings her nothing but troubles... He was nothing like Robbie and was conducted by his mother's (Lettice) wishes and desire of revenge.
