I've been five days at the beach (Benidorm) just to suffer more hot weather in my flesh and bones... humidity made things worse the first couple of days but walking in the sand and the lovely baths in the sea made things better :) I should have taken pics but, honestly, didn't have the energy :S
But, everything has good things, while I was there, I managed to watch Superman Returns (dubbed, the only bad thing)
I was curious about the movie since
koalathebear and
syliasyliasylia enjoyed it and liked it so very much... Finally got the chance to watch it and overall I liked it more than I thought I will... But, and yes, you knew one was coming ;), it wasn't super great or anything. I like the premise and I like how the actors portrayed the characters but I wasn't especially impressed by the main characters/actors:
Brandon Routh's work as Clark Kent/Superman was okay, I like him more than I thought. Still, I find him a bit inexpressive to show the turmoil of feelings Clark/Superman has toward Lois and everything that has happened while he has been gone. He shows the pain but, don't know, it didn't especially hit me... don't know why.
Kate Bosworth as Lois didn't impress me much. In fact, I think I get Brandon as Clark better than her. She does a good job but don't know why either, her character didn't touch me.
The same about Kevin Spacey... Love him! I love him as an actor! but I didn't like or enjoy his Lex Luthor. I don't really understand his motives... mainly because it's been ages since last time I watched any of the Superman movies. But he just looks like another villain for a superheroes movies and I'm kind of tired...
However, the supporting characters stole the show for me! James Marsden as Richard White, Parker Posey as Kitty Kowalski (love how she follows Lex but later on has her doubts. I think the part fits her so nicely!) and the little boy as Lois' son, made the trick to me to keep watching and in fact quite enjoying the movie (I must confess that I was pretty tired since we saw it the day we arrived to Benidorm after the trip and all).
I love, love, love James Marsden's character. It doesn't surprise me that he preferred to work in this movie, not only because Brian Singer directed it, but because the character gave him the chance to shine, thing he couldn't do in any of the X-Men movies...
Maybe it is because I have a soft spot for those tragic characters that know they aren't loved as they love and that got something that from the beginning didn't belong to them in the first place.
Richard is that kind of character. He has the perfect woman, Lois and the cutest kid... but I think he is no fool and he knows how she thinks about Superman and probably knows (not sure if it's said in the movie) the kid isn't his... but he keeps the façade and his spot at Lois' side protecting her, saving her, saving the man she loves...
The scenes in Luthor's yatch are great: how he, a mortal, fights to keep his family together and alive... left me speechless; he is a true hero! without superpowers!... How he comes back and helps Lois to get Superman back is a true proof of love.
Honestly if I decided to watch the movie again I wouldn't do it for anybody else than him! *hugs handsome Richard tight*
Now I need a Richard icon... have to find images somewhere ;)
btw, I haven't read the comics like ever so my knowledge it's reduced to the movies that as I mention, I watched ages ago.
I have to agree that the music at the beginning of the movie was great! and that Brian Singer made a great job in general (still, I find quite unbelievable that everybody ended unhurt from that flight from hell at the beginning, especially Lois). It didn't surprise me he chose to work in this. The result is impressive and all... it's just that it isn't the best movie ever (for me).
I've checked more than 600 posts back in my flist and I think I know how things have been going on around here, more or less... People have been busy!!
Btw, I've just bought new SMAP album online... Hope to get it soon, I can't wait to listen to it!!!
