introducing my new favorite boys
Photobucket

Big Bang (Korean band, of course)

from left to right: Daesung, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang and Seungri.

Just a couple of facts:
For those of you kdrama lovers, you may recognise the one in the center (T.O.P.) as Vick, one of the bad guys in IRIS. The one at his right (your left) looking all serious is G-Dragon, their leader (I posted about my favorite mv of his solo album some days ago). T.O.P and G-Dragon are the rappers although G-Dragon has also written some of their songs. Daesung and Taeyang have incredible voices and Seungri is the youngest (born in 1990) and has a nice voice too ;) They can be very goofy too as you can see in the two kdramas parodies I posted days ago.

G-Dragon with blond hair is just to much for me.

they can be so cute!

and hot!

all pics found google-ing them

I have to make proper introductions since I'm totally crazy for them (I think it has happened to me just a few times, the first of them being my mad love for SMAP. This one has the potential but who knows, SMAP is SMAP, capital letters, you know ;)). I really love these new guys (yes I also like Super Junior, but I don't know how to explain it but it's a bit different kind of love).

It was Takuya Kimura who made me discover SMAP and it was G-Dragon who made me discover Big Bang (although I had already watched their latest mv). I've been watching and listening things from them for weeks now and for now I love every single thing.

For those of you who don't like kpop or aren't interested in this kind of music, please give them a chance. They offer more hip-hop, rap-like music than others kpop bands and have beautiful ballads too. They sing in Korean but also in Japanese and English (in my opinion they are pretty good in both of these foreign languages)

Here's a link about their way to success

Just so you can check out their latest song, here it is: Tell me Goodbye, it's in Japanese, it's a ballad and it's part of IRIS ost for Japan (at least it's used in the promotion of the drama there). Love the mv (the looks, the atmosphere, and the song, of course). They look so hot in gangsters-like suits...

If you decide to check it out, I'd love to read what you think about it.

Oh, I'm sorry if you are not interested in these post, I should maybe make a filter or something...

I don't know too much about the problem with his song but I read the case was close giving him as innocent. Don't know the details and don't know either about other cases...

As a band, yes I like them, their songs get me in a good mood as super junior's do.

Again, sorry if you don't find these entries interesting. Hope you don't decide to defriend me I sure will talk about other things... I'm just in a kpop mood.

Thank you for the warning, I had already read things I don't like and I didn't like what was happening with Super Junior, in the first place.

Besides I don't like when people gets replaced in bands because I usually get attached to people more than bands. For example, now that Han Geng is not in SuJu (until his future about it is decided) I follow him outside of the band because I like him... so probably would happen with me in other cases.

I also think those companies in charge of those people, well, they forget they're people in the first place (I've read about people being in hospital for exhaustion...)

Another reason for trying to control myself is because it's exhausting really! ;)

Which song is the one they found him guilty of plagiarism? I'm curious. I can't help liking Hearbreaker... don't know what to do about it, really...

I don't post too much either. I'm sorry kpop has monopolized the blog lately. I wasn't planning on it. Maybe it's also because I haven't found music I like lately and this caught me by surprise (it's catchy, dance-able...)

My love for SMAP can't be compare with this, anyway ;) Takuya is still my number 1 ;)

I thought nobody had read the Han Geng post... I don't regret writing it because I needed all that out of my system but I am not that invested in all that anymore.

I thought all that found me in a weak state of mind for a lot of things going on in rl. I found the music refreshing and I like them, specially Han Geng so when I found out that he wasn't going to be there anymore I got disappointed, that probably also taught me not to get too much into the bands, and I really are not too much into them but I appreciate your concern and your advice. Thank you!

I like Big Bang and I like the music but I won't get mad to the point of tears if they disappear, I'm trying to enjoy what they've done so far and that's all. If they have a future, okay, if they don't I'll find another thing to like (there are tons of Korean, Japanese, Chinese and British actors I like for a long time, I'll be entertain anyway ;)

What I get clear is that all of them are products to make money for the companies they belong to. The moment they aren't profitable they won't last. Right now Big Bang is making a lot of money, at least until now so they will be together or in solo activities for a while... The same happens with Super Junior.

Another thing I was thinking the other day about how they are bands for a limited time is the fact that all have to go to the military service so I'm thinking that may be the marking point of every band's end. Because actors can be two years with no movies or dramas, but bands? if they aren't as large as SuJu that even without a member or two can work, a band of five where one or two have to leave for the military, I don't think it will last, most of the fans will find another thing to follow, I think because the companies have to make money anyway. They'll find another group of kids to enroll in that crazy world.

Again thank you for your time talking with me about all this. I really appreciate it!

Hi. I basically bloghopped out of boredom, and found myself here at random. So I'm sorry if I'm dropping a comment out of nowhere.

Firstly, I would like to welcome you to the fandom! I'm a total Big Bang stan, but a very rational one at that I must say, and it makes me happy that more and more people are appreciating the group's music. :)

Secondly, and this is the actual reason why I felt compelled to comment here, I need to correct the gravely misinformed assumption that G-Dragon was "deemed guilty" of plagiarism. There were "accusations" made by the infamous netizens, yes, but they're just that - mere accusations, unfounded, invalid allegations - because no lawsuit had been filed.

Let me make it clear that only certain individuals, i.e. authors/creators/producers of the material, can rightfully claim if another has plagiarized their work. Nobody claimed such in GD's case, in any of those "accusations", hence no legal action was taken, thus there's actually no need to prove his guilt or innocence in the legal standpoint.

So NO, GD was never deemed guilty of plagiarism (which is NOT illegal in and of itself, by the way). Nor was there a ruling on his innocence either. Because there's no case to begin with! But hey, if the Flo Rida collaboration is an unofficial determinant of the allegation, then I say GD and YGE straight-up won it!

Sorry if that was a bit technical and legalese. I generally don't care about people's negative opinions of the artists I love, that's their opinion and they're entitled to it, but I cannot accept the circulation of wrong and malicious information about them. I thought of replying to the person who made that incredible statement above like it's a fact when she's no way an expert on the subject, but she seems established on her prejudice against Kpop in general that it's probably a waste of my time arguing with her. Should you need more details regarding controversies surrounding the group, of legal nature or otherwise, do let me know.

So anyway, I hope you stick around in the fandom longer. It's fun, the fans are chill and the music is awesome. :)

First, hi to you, too. :)

Second, maybe I should have been more clear that my comment is only meant to disprove your statement regarding the plagiarism claims on G-Dragon. No more, no less. It's neither to bring in [livejournal.com profile] ginger001 in the fandom (she's clearly in it already) nor is it to refute your arguments on why Kpop is bad for her. I see that you're a friend of hers who cares deeply for her wellbeing, and yes, you do have valid points on the perils of fandom, but I honestly couldn't care less about your self-declared prejudice. As I said, it's your opinion, I respect it, so force it on your friend if you must. That was not the point of my contention.

Third - and this is the sole reason I commented in the first place - for you to just carelessly declare that G-Dragon is "deemed guilty" of plagiarism is something I cannot brush off. Especially since you sounded all too knowing of the case. I mean, it's one thing for you to say that you think G-Dragon has plagiarized (which, really, is an invalid opinion unless you're a creator of the song/s in question, or perhaps a music expert at the very least), but it's entirely a different and superior claim of expertise to say that he's caught guilty as charged when there's not even a legal case to backup that claim. Your statement is just reaching, honey. My legal background compels me to comment.

Here's where I tell you that things reported by the Korean media, or any media for that matter, should be taken with a grain of salt. Now allow me to direct you to the following posts:

- Here (http://community.livejournal.com/omonatheydidnt/1390430.html), where Sony ATV said that “The 10 composers to ‘Right Round’ have not all expressed their opinion on this issue. We had sent samples of GDragon’s songs to the parties involved for the 2 songs ‘Right Round’ and ‘She’s Electric’. There are indeed similarities between ‘Heartbreaker’ and ‘Right Round’ and between ‘Butterfly’ and ‘She’s Electric’. But it is hard to say if it is plagiarism at this stage. We will all go with the final decision of the composers to the song.”
- And then the next thing we know (http://community.livejournal.com/omonatheydidnt/1621230.html), they sent "a notification which prohibits the use of the music without permission". Know that at this time, there wasn't any reply from the composers yet, which they're supposedly waiting before making a decision. What is up with that? Unscrupulous business tactics, perhaps? After all, G-Dragon is hot issue. I must also clarify that the notification letter is not even a legal document. And oh, why also bring up Joe and Lionel Richie when neither is under Sony?
- Lastly, this (http://community.livejournal.com/omonatheydidnt/1500308.html), which is probably the most unbiased opinion you'll read on this subject.

After that, there's the collaboration with Flo Rida, and hey, still not a word from the composers! I will not comment on the back door dealings that you're driving at because, really, who could attest to those anyway? Surely neither you nor I. I only claim knowledge on the data laid out before me, which I know could have a lot of things lost in translation but which I have carefully analyzed to weed out the falsities in the media game. Am I completely unbiased in picking out the information I want to believe, though? Of course not. Bias exists even in scientific research. There's a little bit of bias there, as with everyone and our knowledge of the world, but I can tell you that I'm not misinformed when it comes to cases I'm passionate about, like this one.

If there's one thing that you're right though, it's that the Kpop industry is indeed plagued by plagiarism accusations. Some are confirmed by the producers and slammed with a lawsuit, while some are just blatantly dismissed. But you cannot also disregard that a lot of these claims are just too ridiculous to be taken seriously by anybody who knows better. One such bogus allegation is this Heartbreaker vs Right Round issue, the supposed basis of which is the similar "rapping style". Ok firstly, the use of the word "plagiarism" in this context is in itself flawed because "style" is not something that can be plagiarized to begin with. Plagiarism requires actual copying of tangible elements - notes, words, dance moves, drawings, beats, etc. - that are products of authorship. But, assuming, for the sake of argument that "rapping style" can be technically plagiarized, oh, what about these then?

I guess we found the answer as to why there's no response from the composers in the first place.

You seem too focused on the Kpop side of plagiarism occurence. But I'm sure you've also heard of several Western artists, respected or otherwise, who have also had their share of plagiarism accusations? Oasis, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Timbaland, etc. Heck, even Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan. You know why it seems massive in Kpop, though? It's because the industry is so small and the netizen culture is ubiquitous, that's why.

I think I made my piece crystal clear and detailed, so I won't be replying to further comments from you unless you ask valid questions.

My apologies to [livejournal.com profile] ginger001 for making this post a venue for debate.

Thank you for the welcome. I really like their music, I enjoy watching their performances and mvs and have fun listening to their songs so I'll stick around at least for now (lol) I find them cute and hot (depending on who we're talking about ;))

That being said, I still don't have an opinion about those plagiarism accusations. What I do know is that the mere notion of them existing is what annoys me and makes me a bit sad. I am not going to enter in conversations or fights about if he's innocent or guilty.

What I don't like is that those accusations were made in the first place because now it makes me have doubts about him, when I didn't have any and I don't like that. Period. Don't want to know anymore about it at least for now. I thank you both for offering different points of view. Now I have enough information to create my own opinion. If I have questions in the future I'll ask ;)

I thank you for offering your point of view as a fan, as I've thanked [livejournal.com profile] tawusgirtpuscgr for offering her opinion as a friend of mine who knows me a little bit more.

I just ask you for this being left as it is, two people having different opinions because they have different experiences in the same fandom. I want this LJ to be a happy place, because it is where I go when I want a happy place, so please allow me that.

Thank you for taking the time to write a comment when you found this journal out of nowhere ;)

I'm so sorry I was too focused on replying above that I didn't notice your comment. :|

Although, I hope I have answered any doubts or questions you might have.
