Moonlight 101
Okay, before saying anything I have to admit that I read some of my flist's thoughts about the premiere and that I had my own fears about this the moment I learned Jason Dohring was related to this project. The thing is that I'm watching just because he's in it. If he decided to be in a reality I probably would be watching too (yes, I'm pathetic that way and I don't mind).
So as I was prepared for the most dreadful thing ever, I must confess that I wasn't as disappointed as other people may have been. In fact I watched the episode without getting bored or anything... and I didn't feel any kind of nausea or choking symptoms... I quite enjoyed it, although that doesn't mean I didn't see the flaws, and they are some: the plot wasn't very original, the characters were quite flat and there are some moments I wanted to hit Sophia Myles' character in the head, seriously.
Hoping here that things look better in the next episodes,
Some notes I took after finishing watching the episode:
- Situations and dialogue were a bit of a cliché (vampires being in danger as Josef points out? where were the riots of people trying to wipe them out? If I were one of the students at the professor's lecture I wouldn't been convince to believe everything he was saying. It sounded poor.)
- Sophia Myles should stick to costume drama pieces.
- Josef's first outfit hurt my eyes (especially the tie and the pants). However the moment with the chick-food I found it pretty cool.
- All those moments of Mick driving were awful. I mean it was awfully painful to watch how the background scenes were moving and the car and driver where in some studio or similar.
- It's the kind of series that it isn't that bad itself if you consider the whole world of tv-shows, but it isn't so good for Fridays primetime (my guess, I don't live in the US so we don't have that consideration about tv shows). In fact it remind me to shows 'Treasure Hunter' like.
- Even if it isn't good, I'll be watching until it gets cancelled. I need my weekly JD fix if it's possible.
- The develop in the characters ruin the actors' job. I mean, Josef played by JD is potentially a good character, really interesting in theory, but the writing and what the actors were given to work with weren't enough.
- Beth's lines were the lamest of all characters'.
- Although I watched the episode with no problem, the moment I reach the 'I saved her when she was little' I rolled my eyes, like 'of course you saved her, that's why she trusts you first thing after your first meeting...)
- I couldn't help but think about Logan when Josef's is on the phone. The hand gesturing shouted 'Logan! Logan!' non-stop.
- Enjoyed the moment when he's waiting for Mick drinking blood and when he leaves saying 'Sad but true' JD's back side is interesting ;)
- The cut in the professor's neck in the moment the girl cuts him looked like he was going to bleed to death (it looks deep) but later on was a simple scratch. It kind of disappoint me, don't know really why.
- The ring in Mick's index finger got on my nerves and I don't know why either. It just seemed like trying to look cool too much.
- The fight with the car was kind of cool. When Micks run after the car it tootally reminded me of this scene from 'Underworld' when Lucian is running trying to catch Selene and Michael's car.
But after all that, I couldn't not include a Josef pic spam *grins*
