James McAvoy
Okay, I was kind of preparing myself for this because I knew it was
coming. I knew I will get myself into a 'watch James McAvoy's work'
spree. I think he is one of the finest actors I have ever seen. He can do
anything he wants and he will be great every single time.
I remember first time I saw him. I'm pretty sure it was in Foyle's War. He is in the first episode of the whole series and is a guest star not very large, really, but he caught my eye. After that, I bought Bright Young Things, first movie directed by Stephen Fry and seeing James there I thought, that face sounds familiar... and it took me a while to put two and two together. The third time was in Lorna Doone where you have to be really careful if you look for him because he wears and awful long haired wig :/
So after watching Narnia, where he is just fantastic, I return to things I have in my list of 'must watch'. I watched ShakespeaRetold: Macbeth, Shameless episodes 1 and 2 and I took a look at State of Play, Inside I'm dancing, and to Wimbledon (that I just bought last Friday). *silly grin*
My favorites: Macbeth and Shameless (I also discovered that he was nominated as Best TV Comedy Newcomer in 2004 British Comedy Awards for his work in the series, didn't win though :( )
First: I love Steve, in Shameless... (btw, I love characters named Steve, I love how British women pronounce that name. It also happens with Jack Davenport who is Steve in Coupling) I love how he tries his best to conquer Fiona's heart and how he tries to get himself as part of her family... meanwhile in the other hand he is this cool and suave cars thief... and the reasons he has to do what he does sounds so reasonable that you practically think he's right.
Love him in the first episode, at the beginning when he tries to catch the guy who stole Fiona's purse... he makes a fool of himself at the beginning but punching the security guy and running away, won Fiona's heart ;) Love the sex scene, mainly because I read in one of the interviews

at her LJ that he was a bit nervous about it. I think it's really well
done and quite cute: they're holding steady with the help of the
kitchen drawer that later on Fiona closes... not realizing Steve
fingers were also there :S and when the doorbell rings and he tries to
get dressed... poor guy. I also like when she calls him and askes him
to tell her what she was wearing the first time he saw her and he does
and that wins his definite chance with her.
In the second episode, I love when he tries to stop Frank from hurting Ian more and what he says to him. And later on when Fiona realizes that he was the one who sent her dad to France, 'really funny would have been Bosnia' he says, and keeps on saying that Frank doesn't deserve the family he has. Fiona is so mad at him that punches him twice. The fighting scene (well Fiona fighting, Steve trying to stop her) is really cute, and poor Steve ends with a semi black eye and slipt lip :/ Love the making up scene and the end... he naked just covered with the roses... have to make an icon of that!

I really enjoyed watching James as Joe Macbeth. He does a magnificent job there and won my heart from the moment he sings in the kitchen as he is preparing the knife to cut a pig's head... I have no words for that, my chin had already hit the floor. I particularly have to thank the costume guys in this production becase the white pants and jacket he wears and the black t-shirt are just amazing (also the coat he wears when he and Billy go for some drinks)...
From the beginning to the end you can see the transition from being a really nice guy who loves cooking to a paranoid man who is consumed by guilty. The scene where he is going up the stairs to kill Duncan is really powerful, as the one where he goes out of the kitchen because a costumer complained about his food and he gets the guy out of his seat and kicks him in the kidneys... (the guy was stronger and taller than James if I'm not mistaken but the ferocity in his movements made him really scary), and the final scenes, when he is told Ella killed herself and the figthing scene with Peter... I was astonished. James is fantastic during the whole production! I truly recommend it.
Two of my favorite moments:

Inside I'm dancing is cute but really sad and he again does an incredible job... It was pretty late when I watched it and I forwarded parts but it's a really touching movie. And State of Play... James isn't the main character and I haven't seen all, I also forwarded looking for him.... will say more when I see it properly. Wimbledon, James is Paul Bettany's character's brother... he is pretty cute to watch even with such a small part... but I think it's worth to take a look at him there.
