He's alright! In fact,... is kind of sweet

Tuesday night they aired Queer as Folk's third episode of season 1.
I'd title it: The one where Brian realizes Justin can play in the same league as him.

The episode starts great: Lindsay and Melanie organize a bris at their house to celebrate Gus' circumcision. Michael and the rest of the gang has already tried to convince Brian to assist as he is Gus's father, but any of them really know what the girls have planned for the baby.

Brian, meanwhile, enjoys a tete-a-tete without words at the sauna of their gym... When the boys learn about the baby's circumcision, Michael warns Brian who appears just in time and stop the rabbi and convinces Lindsay that he doesn't want that for his kid. Melanie doesn't take his intermission very well.

Justin, at the same time, is still obsessed with Brian and the night they shared together. Justin thought that Brian thought like him, that it was marvelous, but Brian thinks far from that and says pretty clearly to Justin that their affair was a one night thing. That the entertainment was good but nothing else. Justin isn't convinced and plans to do something to get more than his attention back.

After 'pestering' Debbie and Michael for a bit, Justin (with Daphne) follows Brian as he is trying to get another prey's attention to get him to bed... In Babylon, Justin and Daphne and Michael and Emmeth witness how Brian works his charms... Justin can't just stay there watching how Brian makes advances to a couple of men. So he makes up his mind and goes to the dance floor upper body naked and dance seductively, stealing Brian's interests right under his nose. Brian quite astonished first reacts and steals Justin from the two other men, choosing him for himself. That same night Ted gets lucky with a guy who looks very interested in him. However not everything is what it seems.

I love the way Brian-Justin relationship stars in episode 1 and how is developing. It's clear that Brian fells attracted to Justin, no just for his looks but also (mainly) for his age. It's like the fact that Justin is a teenager, 'innocent' and didn't have experience before Brian and that he was his first time and that he keeps coming for more, make Brian get excited or at least interested and honored, and that for Brian is a lot, since he likes to get the attention.

Justin, as he says to Daphne, thinks Brian is god. I think that I'd probably feel the same about Brian if he was my first time... It annoyed me that Brian was so cold and distant that even didn't remember the kid's name in the previous episodes... It was kind of cruel but as we are learning the first things about the characters, it's pretty clear that Brian worries about himself and only cares about getting pleasure for himself... and that is what Justin is, at the beginning.

However, in episode 3, Justin shows Brian that he is something else and that he won't have enough being just another notch in Brian's headboard. The way he gets Brian back is simply great and I enjoy every single bit of that scene!: the way Brian is dancing with two other men and Justin goes dancing, upper body naked, next to them, calling one of the men's attention and the other one's seconds later leaving Brian almost dancing on his own.

Justin is smiling because he succeeds in his plan and Brian has a face of 'wtf!' (although he looks kind of amused that the kid dared to do that just to get him again)... but as he's Brian Kinney, he goes there, gets rid of the men and gets Justin for himself, kissing and caressing him, just what Justin wanted. I was really happy for the kid, seriously, and for Brian because in my head to be with Justin is just the right thing for him!

Btw, I love Daphne's opinion of Brian: 'He's so old! And skinny! You can do way better than that!' she tells Justin.

That brings me to what I don't like too much about the episode: Michael. I mean, I love him as a character (in fact he is to me a mix of the following characters: Charlotte from Sex and the City and in the way he talks to Liz, and sometimes Max Evans, from Roswell), but didn't like him too much in this episode.

As Debbie's son you expect that he behaves more nicely with Justin. I know that Justin is a pain in the ass in those three first episodes and that he's the one dealing with him but he complains too much... and later on, he has an 'intimate moment' with Brian in Babylon's restrooms as they share some drug and it's pretty clear that Michael considers Brian his best friend and vice versa, but Michael deep deep inside desires Brian too much... the longing in his eyes later as he sees how Brian and Justin are together says it all.

And the thing is that I don't think Michael and Brian together is a good option. Michael and Brian wouldn't work ever! They are great as friends and the occasional kiss in the mouth is fine with me, as Emmeth and Ted do, or Ted and Michael... Michael idolizes Brian but has put limits to himself, like invisible rules that say that Brian is just too much for him and that he has to keep being just his friend, because that is just as far as Michael will go in Brian's life. And probably Michael is right... but to Michael the desire may become unhealthy and too painful.

Brian knows Michael will be there for him, always, and Michael knows that Brian would do anything for him but they are such different individuals that they just don't fit, romantically talking. Michael wants a Brian that in reality doesn't exist, meanwhile Justin loves and likes the Brian that he met that is real Brian, with his flows and imperfections... but with an ego as big as a house ;)

Brian, as he is, is better with Justin, just a kid, yes, a lot of years his junior, yes, but who can make him feel younger, and who is also mature for his age. Brian needs worshipping and Justin will give him that but involved in a bit of reality... don't know if it makes sense. Justin has the potential and Brian can be the one to release it and enjoy it...

The other moment I love is when Brian arrives to the girl's bris (at the beginning of the episode) and stops his son from getting circumcised. As sure of himself he is, he really doesn't give them a choice. He is magnificent in that moment: 'Excuse me, rabbi?' to Melanie and Lindsay 'You two, in the kitchen, now!' (Brian can't understand that they don't accept the baby as he was born and that in less than a week of life they have already decided to change things in his body, more without his consent.

Just the last mention goes to poor Ted's love life. When he finds a guy interested in him... he's the wrong one.

Love Emmeth and his perspective about everything (love his scenes with the Japanese guy or when he faints at the mention of the circumcision). He can be kind of my hero... although, definitely, my favorite keeps being Brian. Justin is getting more points as time passes.
